I recently attended a sketching event organised by one of our local Urban Sketchers. It's quite a while since I have done any figure drawing and it took a fair few poses before I settled in.  I found the full length poses difficult to capture in the time frame, so decided to concentrate on the head and shoulders.

Textile

Painted and hand stitched on cotton sheeting
approx 17 x 17 cm (7" x 7")

Another slow-stitch project. I am not sure whether I will finish this piece with binding or frame it behind a mount.

Recent acrylic paintings

Roses in June - acrylic inks - 17 x 12 cm

Poppies - acrylic inks - 17 x 12 cm

Aside from using my sketchbooks and preparing foldbook samples for a recent workshop I led for our local art group, I have done very little painting of late.  However, I managed to finish a couple of small acrylics on paper for an exhibition earlier this month.  Still attempting to go bolder and looser - and a reminder to self to keep up the momentum!

A few sketches from recent months

All these sketches are from my current watercolour book (approximately 5" square), mostly using a Pilot G-tech-C4 water soluble brown pen, some with watercolour added.

Log Cabin sampler

Continuing my sewing explorations, I made this small crazy log cabin sampler.  I used old cotton sheeting which had been randomly painted with inks and some old shirt material, then added embroidery.  The backing was a hand-me-down and luckily blended with the pinky reds of the painted fabric.  All hand sewn.

Floral scroll continued

A few more inches of the embroidered scroll.  Only about 4" to go.  I shall have to start thinking about the next sewing project to keep me busy in the evenings.

Embroidered scroll

Keeping busy on cold winter evenings.  I think I must have started this embroidery about the end of November/beginning of December.  I'm not sure whether it will remain as a scroll or I could display it as a wall hanging.  I have used a length of cotton sheeting, backed with batting.  Initially I included some appliquéd flowers from an old linen tablecloth and tried to completely fill in the background with various stitches. However, I didn't achieve the result I was hoping for, so changed to mainly using seed stitch between the motifs. There was no overall design plan, once I finish stitching one flower or plant, I search my sketchbooks for the next.

The fabric is 4" wide and so far I have completed 30" of the length, with another 12" to go.
