A section of the dyed paper strips. Smoke bush and wisteria leaves, hollyhock and Japanese anemone flowers, plus red onion skin
|
I cut a full sheet of Bockingford hot pressed watercolour paper into 4 strips lengthwise. These were sprayed with diluted vinegar before laying out leaves, flowers and onion skin and rolling tightly round two 6" lengths of mountain ash branch. I also added a small piece of calico, bound round a piece of plastic pipe. Water to cover, plus about a third cup of vinegar, then gently simmered for about an hour.
The paper was successful, but the fabric certainly lacked definition.
